Write what you know? Uh, About that...
That's the number one piece of advice everyone hears, right?
It's a little hard when you're writing fantasy. Because I don't personally know gods or demons or daemons or telepaths. Although my grandmother did always seem to know when I was about to do something bad, so maybe I did know a telepath. That's a terrifying thought.
The point is: most of my stories are made up. But you'll find kernels of truth in them. The settings are all from memory. While Kate in Pillar of Heaven walks the streets of Boston with a Waites Tower in Copley Square, I lived in Boston for many years and admired the John Hancock building. Kai roams Los Angeles, riding the express bus up and down Ventura Boulevard in Star Eater and I rode the same bus to work for years. In Two Faced, Daniel eats his favorite cheesesteak at Jim's Steaks on South Street in Philly. Any native Philadelphian will tell you, that's the best place for them.
If you're curious about what's based in the real world, where inspiration for certain pieces came from, and other tidbits, feel free to click on that story. I've also included on each story page some fun additions. For music nerds, I've added a Spotify playlist. Each book also has my dream acting cast attached. I'll add more extras as I think of them and I'm always open to suggestions. I hope you enjoy!
